How To Join Eligibility For Membership
To join the Sons of the American Legion, you must be a male descendant, of an American Legion member, or a Veteran who perished while serving honorably on federal active duty with the U.S. Armed Forces between any of the following dates:
December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946 (World War II) June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1955 (Korean War) February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War) August 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon/Grenada) December 20, 1989 to January 31, 1990 (Operation Just Cause - Panama) *August 2, 1990 to today (Operation Desert Shield/Storm/Iraqi Freedom) NOTE: Being a Legion member implies that your qualifying ancestor served honorably on federal active duty during any of the periods listed above. An online application for our Squadron is available by clicking here. (You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to use it.) Print the application out, complete it (if someone other than this website has recruited you to our Squadron, simply draw a line through "website" and enter their name. Note that the online form is set up so that, if you prefer, you can type your information online before printing it out. Simply point and click at the areas you wish to type information into), and send it with your check or money order and supporting documentation to the address indicated on the form. If the person through whom you are qualified is living, copies of their current Legion membership card and DD414 are required to establish your eligibility. If the Veteran through whom you are qualified is deceased, and died while in service, a copy of their DD214 showing dateis required. If the Veteran through whom you are qualified is deceased, but did not perish while on active duty, or a copies of their most recent Legion membership card preceding their death and their DD214 are required to establish your eligibility. Information pertaining to obtaining the necessary military records (supporting documentation) for yourself or your deceased relation can be found at the NARA National Personnel Records Center Military Personnel Records. Requests for records can be made at eVetRecs. Note that a copy of your father's or grandfather's American Legion membership card is sufficient evidence of your eligibility.
